The 480CMY is a hybrid: it switches between a hard beam, a pattern spot and a wide wash. On a rig list, that is one fixture type to buy, one to carry, one to learn and one to stock spares for. Instead of committing budget across three different moving heads, you can fill a stage with one model and still have the beam looks for the big numbers and the wash looks for the front line. The 400W LED source has an average lifespan of 50,000 hours.
The color system carries 9 colors plus open with CTO, CTB and CMY. The CMY part is what buys you the smooth transitions: instead of dropping from one gel position to the next, the fixture blends continuously through the spectrum, so a slow color change reads as a change rather than a jump. On a theatrical cue or a sunrise effect, that is the difference between a design and a switch.
Prism 1 is an 8-facet rotatable and Prism 2 is a 3-facet rotatable. Either one turns a single hard beam into a fan of beams; stacked, they multiply the beam count further and, because both rotate, the fans sweep rather than sit still. That is the effect that fills the air above a dance floor or a stage during a chorus, and it comes from the fixture rather than from extra units.
There is a rotatable gobo wheel with 8 replaceable gobos plus open, and a separate static gobo wheel with 11 gobos plus open. Two wheels means you are not choosing between pattern and effect: you can project a texture on one wheel while the other changes the mood, and the rotatable positions let the pattern itself move. Gobos are replaceable, so a custom logo or a house pattern is a swap, not a new fixture.
24 DMX channels cover the fixture properly — pan, tilt, both prisms, both gobo wheels, the color system, dimmer, strobe and the effects independently. Pan travels 540° and tilt 270°, both with 16-bit scanning. 16-bit is the mode that matters for film and for slow movement: it removes the visible steps you get with 8-bit resolution, which is exactly where a cheap moving head gives itself away.
RDM lets you address and monitor the fixture over the DMX line from the desk, and software can be uploaded through the DMX cable, so maintenance does not mean climbing the rig with a laptop. Power comes in on PowerCon (or Tru1) and DMX on 3-pin or 5-pin XLR input and output, both chainable. The two integrated clamps mean it goes straight onto a truss or a T-bar with no separate hanging hardware to remember.
At 21.8 kg (48.1 lb) and 365 × 290 × 682 mm (14.4 × 11.4 × 26.9 in), the 480CMY is a fixture one person can hang, which matters on a touring schedule where the same two hands do every load-in. The 2PCS package at $3,019 arrives with a road case, so a matched pair travels and stores as one unit. The chassis is IP20 black, rated −10°C to 40°C (−14°F to 104°F), on AC100–240V at 500W with an 8A fuse.
Moving heads suit rigs that move with the show: clubs and small venues, touring and rental racks, band and theatre stages, corporate events and houses of worship.
